This passed Mandela Day celebrated 100 years since Tata Madiba’s birth. In order to commemorate his philanthropy, we wanted to support a cause that makes an invaluable impact on our community – the iCare Foundation.
iCare is a community-based NPO that deals directly with children living on the streets in the hope of giving them a brighter future. The reason for their homelessness can be attributed to many factors, with the largest being abuse, severely dysfunctional families, peer pressure and poverty.
The organisation offers support through a great number of initiatives involving outreach, rehabilitation, housing, education and work skills. Over the years, Bova Safety Wear has partnered with iCare through the provision of safety footwear that is donated to the work skills programme where individuals are provided training in an area of their interest. These include, but are not limited to: bricklaying, panel beating, security, cooking and welding.
With a R10 000 donation in mind to assist with training more individuals through the work skills programme, we asked our online community to share their favourite Nelson Mandela quotes or moments using the hashtag, #BOVACares100 – with each engagement contributing R100 to the donation. Participants also stood a chance to win Branded Bova Safety gear for taking part.
“The responses were fantastic, with many individuals taking the liberty to share pictures of themselves at iconic places in Mandela’s life or with Madiba monuments,” said Bova Brand Manager, Predahni Naidoo. “We were thrilled to reach our target of R10 000 and further support an organisation that is providing sustainable solutions to our community through the upskilling of individuals.”
